Tammy Smith is President of Alban Construction, LLC, bringing more than 40 years of experience in property management, construction management and building renovation to every project Alban undertakes.
Tammy began her career in property management, eventually becoming a Director of Property Management. Her transition into construction came while overseeing the complete renovation of a Manhattan building—an experience that gave her both a new career direction and a perspective she still brings to projects today. She understands construction from the owner’s and property manager’s side of the table: how a building operates, how residents and tenants are affected, where projects can go sideways, and what it takes to get the job finished properly.
Today, Tammy works closely with property owners, managers, designers and architects on renovations and build-outs throughout New Jersey, New York and South Florida. Her work includes multifamily and condominium common-area renovations, commercial interiors, amenity spaces, medical and professional offices, and the modernization of existing properties for today’s owners, residents and tenants.
Tammy is also known for taking on complicated projects and demanding schedules. Whether navigating an accelerated timeline, working through the inevitable differences between design intent and field conditions, or determining which materials will actually perform in a particular environment, she brings decades of experience—and very little patience for making something more complicated than it needs to be—to the process.
That experience has also made Tammy a regular contributor on construction, renovation and property management issues. Her articles offer a candid look at the realities behind successful projects, from evaluating construction bids and managing the designer-contractor relationship to working in occupied buildings, selecting materials for South Florida’s climate, and understanding why the lowest number on a proposal does not always mean the lowest project cost.
Tammy and Alban Construction have continued to expand their work beyond the New Jersey and New York markets into South Florida, where the company brings its renovation and construction experience to aging condominium, multifamily and commercial properties being repositioned for today’s market.
